Valentine Hoy
MA Mental Health Counseling
Valentine is an Associate Counselor based in Yangon and available for both in-person and online sessions. He works with adults, adolescents, and children from international and local communities, bringing an understanding of the challenges that can come with living across cultures, navigating transitions, and managing the pressures of school, work, relationships, and family life.
About Valentine
Valentine has lived in Southeast Asia for the past eight years, originally coming to Myanmar through an interest in meditation. His years living and working across the region give him a first-hand appreciation of the experience of building a life away from home and navigating different cultural environments.
He has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults, including inpatient mental health populations in Chiang Mai. He particularly enjoys supporting adolescents and adults who may appear capable or high-functioning on the outside while struggling internally with anxiety, low mood, burnout, identity, relationships, or difficult life transitions.
Before training as a therapist, Valentine studied philosophy and spent four years working in private equity finance. This background gives him additional insight into high-pressure and achievement-focused environments, career stress, burnout, and the expectations that can accompany academic and professional success.
Valentine brings a calm, thoughtful, and curious presence to therapy. He creates space for clients to better understand themselves without feeling rushed to find an immediate solution, while still helping them move towards meaningful change.

Therapeutic Approach
Valentine uses an integrative approach that combines thoughtful exploration with attention to emotions and the body. His work draws primarily from:
Valentine is particularly interested in helping clients move beyond simply understanding a difficulty intellectually. Therapy may involve exploring the different parts of ourselves that have developed in response to our experiences, noticing emotional and physical responses, and understanding the stories and patterns that shape how we relate to ourselves and others.
His style is collaborative, calm, and unhurried. He works alongside clients to develop greater self-understanding while identifying practical and meaningful ways of responding differently to the difficulties they are experiencing. His sessions are grounded and unhurried, with less emphasis on finding a quick fix and more on developing a deeper understanding of patterns and experiences in a way that is not only understood intellectually, but also felt.
